Barn Rules
Barn Rules & Expectations
Any rules exist for your safety, and the betterment and safety of our horses. We believe that any moment you are with a horse is a chance to either school or unschool your horse. With this in mind, there are many opportunities for horses to develop bad or potentially dangerous behaviors when outside of the supervision of an experienced handler or trainer.
Riding/Learning
Helmets and closed toed shoes must be worn at all times. Boots with a 1” heel are required for riding.
Riding without a trainer is allowed only at trainer’s discretion and on owned/leased horses ONLY. You will be given guidelines for what to do while riding on your own. These guidelines will typically fall well below the level that you would ride at within the context of a lesson. Use this time as an opportunity to practice the basics, and understand concepts worked on in lessons at a slower pace.
Riding lesson horses without a trainer is not allowed.
Jumping without a trainer is not allowed.
Guidelines for riding without a trainer are subject to change based on changes observed in horse’s temperament and obedience during lessons.
Learning doesn’t just happen in the ring! Riders are encouraged to learn and research on their own outside of lessons. Youtube, The Chronicle of the Horse, The Plaid Horse and Noelle Floyd are great resources for advancing knowledge outside of lessons. Find a cool article, video or something you’re curious about? Feel free to send it to us or ask about it in a lesson!
Tack & Cleanliness
It is our job to work together to keep the barn looking tidy and presentable. Please put away your tack and grooming equipment promptly after your ride or lesson. See something left out or the aisle getting dirty? Help out by putting things away or sweeping.
If your horse leaves manure in any tack area or aisle, please clean it up promptly. Muck buckets are provided for easy disposal.
In the winter, blankets should be neatly folded on blanket bars or stored in tubs when not in use.
Clean tack regularly! Bridles and girths should be cleaned after each ride, and saddles should be cleaned or oiled weekly.
